Tarikat

Tarikat is a visual poem of a journey towards enlightenment. Called by a mystic dream, Derya finds herself among souls steeped in the Islamic Sufi tradition. They join in hypnotic movements and stirring rhythms, dissolving into an ocean of silence.

Jasmijn Schrofer

Biography

Jasmijn Schrofer (1992) has a love for the documentary film, dance and the soul of the dancer. If her films where to be described it would say ‘desire’ or ‘visual poetry’. Her graduation film Tarikat is the product of this coalition. It got recognitions with four awards: Cinedans Festival Jury Award 2016, the KNF-prize of the Dutch Film Critics, the VPRO documentary prize and the Wildcard prize. Jasmijn is unafraid to take an intimate look at complex issues such as immigration (Homework) and euthanasia (Practical Matters). Earlier at the film academy she directed and co-choreographed her first dance film (Unfold).  This was selected for Inshadow, Mirgrations en Cinedans 2014. She is a graduate of The School for Young Talent in The Hague, a joint venture of the Dutch Royal Arts Academy and the Dutch Royal Conservatory.
