Shady El-Hamus

Biography

In 2008 Shady El-Hamus enrolled at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in 2008 to study screenwriting. There, besides writing a lot of short screenplays, he soon realizes he is longing for more and starts directing.

Shady graduates from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2012 as screenwriter/director. He writes ‘Magnesium’ which is directed by Sam de Jong, and writes and directs ‘About sons’. At the 2012 Netherlands Film Festival ‘Magnesium’ was awarded best Student Film and for both films, Shady as awarded the ‘Dioraphte Award’ for most outstanding talent. ‘Magnesium’ got selected for the 2013 edition of the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ – as many other international film festivals, and was the Dutch entry for the 2013 Student Oscar.

From January 2015 Shady has graduated from the prestigious MA Directing Fiction Course at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, United Kingdom. His graduation film ‘Fairuz’ – starring acclaimed Palestinian actor Mohammad Bakri – premiered at the 2015 Dubai International Film Festival as part of the Main Competition.

In 2015 Shady has directed the first season (ten 25min episodes) of a light-hearted TV-Series in the Netherlands. In early 2017 he finished his next short film ‘Nightshade’and is now developing his first feature film.
